Liverpool’s plan to denormalise smoking

Addiction Economy Thought for Today - 'denormalising' addictive products. Great word!

Loving Liverpool Council's plans to 'denormalise' smoking by using various methods to restrict the availability of tobacco. "It said almost £2m would be used to clamp down on the city’s "biggest preventable killer", support people in quitting smoking and stop others from taking it up."

Perhaps I should send them our new White Paper on the 5 Drivers of the Addiction Economy!

When governments don't act we are seeing more and more local councils, cities and even smaller communities taking things into their own hands on harmful products. Good on them. This is how social norms change. Bit by bit.

I think too they will have to tackle the conundrum on vapes of how to use them to help smokers quit whilst stopping them becoming another mainstream nicotine product to replace cigarettes given the growing concern about harms. And stopping them being a stepping stone for young people to cigs.

Interested in their approach. If anyone knows, keen to find out.

Go Liverpool!
