Hundreds of suicides from gambling and an indifferent industry
Addiction Economy Thought for Today - about counter-advertising
Almost 500 people die by suicide linked to gambling every year. Gambling companies are shameless in their relentless promotion of opportunities to gamblers and lack of responsibility in facilitating gambling in people who can't afford to lose any more.
Number 3 of our 5 Drivers of the Addiction Economy is Predatory Marketing. It is relentless since the Labour Party decided that Gambling was merely a leisure industry to be supported and helped to addict its customers, not a predatory addictive industry to be stopped in its tracks.
I like this from suicide prevention charity Men's Minds Matter UNCLE and Jake Dubbins & Media Bounty to counter the relentless advertising with guerrilla ads around betting shops around the Grand National just giving another angle.
A bit like the great work that Bite Back are doing with young people countering junk food promotion.
