Smoking is Awesome - new vid for young people
Addiction Economy Thought for Today - We are researching what makes good communication to help people understand what addictive products do, why they like them and how the Addiction Economy works to try to ensure that they don't feel they can stop, even though they are being harmed.
We love Kurzgesagt, (In a Nutshell' in German) whose vision 'is to spark curiosity and encourage a science-based, humanist and optimistic worldview. We exist to make science and humanism appealing to as many people as possible, regardless of their age or academic background.'

For many years Joe Woof has followed and been inspired by their work on subjects as diverse as 'Plastic pollution', 'Terraforming Venus', 'Why don't we shoot nuclear waste into the sky', 'Vaccines,' 'Loneliness', 'What is intelligence, where does it begin'. Their research is rigorous and their communication compelling.
We both watch every one, highly recommended at all ages, but definitely for your young people, who will probably know them anyway.
Their latest is on smoking. 'Smoking is Awesome'. It's got everything we think is essential - honesty, rigour, crystal clear information, great graphics - but will be very controversial for those in public health messaging who might be worried that it gives too much prominence to the enjoyable aspects of smoking. (Edited: we are not totally sure if it incorrectly overstates the affects of nicotine, researching more!)
We don't, we think that is exactly what works, treating people like adults, giving them all the relevant information in a clear, non-patronising way.
We can't afford their production values, but will be bringing their thinking into our work too in the next phase of our work communicating the Addiction Economy to the public. Well done Kurzgesagt.
We would love anyone's views.
