BMA report on proposed vaping restrictions
Addiction Economy Thought for Today - timely report from the BMA asking for restrictions on vaping, which we agree with almost all of what they say. We have 5 additional ones, out tomorrow!
However here is a microcosm of the problem in a nutshell - they are pushing for only tobacco only flavour vapes, while ASH only supports banning flavour descriptors rather than the flavours themselves because “some flavours are associated with greater success in quitting than tobacco flavour”.
This is nonsense. You don't need anything like the hundreds if not thousands of flavours that there are out there. Not least because these contain hundreds of chemicals which are not approved for inhalation and are likely to be the biggest cause of health effects now and in the future. Very short sighted of them.
However, perhaps a couple of fruit flavours maybe mint and berry to tempt the smokers might allowable in plain packaging behind the counter, with approved chemicals. Smoking after all does kill half its users, and vapes are useful for now to help them quit. But vapes should be phased out with smoking as we have been saying for a while.
