"Joe's Friday Shorts": A New YouTube Series on the Addiction Economy

Addiction Economy Thought for Today - we launched a new YouTube playlist today - Joe's Friday Shorts. Each week Joe Woof will take a couple of minutes to pick out one important aspect of the Addiction Economy, mainly exploring the issues for young people.

Today's illustrates the farcical claims of vaping companies that their products are targeted at smokers, when quite clearly from their product design and marketing they are for young people. The user stats bear this out.

He has a nice couple of infographics - this one shows what vape usage would look like if the sector really were targeting smokers - the trajectory in green. If they were optimising for long term profit it would look like the grey trajectory. The orange line showing actual usage....

The Takeaway: We must phase out vapes with cigarettes, with a medically agreed time lag. If we don't, vaping will become yet another harmful lifestyle product we have let industry bamboozle us into allowing.
