Paul Corrigan Joins Labour to Shape NHS Future
Addiction Economy Thought for Today - Liking the look of the new guy Paul Corrigan helping the Labour Party with their mission to improve the NHS.
"Wes Streeting’s new adviser on the future of the NHS is a man of the left who has described himself as a Marxist and wants to resist what he fears will be a “right-wing populist” assault on a health service free at the point of use."
"...Corrigan expressed regret that he did not try when last in government to turn the NHS from a treatment production line to a service that focused on preventing people becoming ill. “The NHS was once again growing in self-belief and we could have trusted that growing ability to work for patients in different ways,” he said recently and warned: “If the NHS cannot play a bigger role in reducing the extent to which minor illnesses become major illnesses, it is difficult to see how the NHS survives to 2040.”
Well done Mr Corrigan - and this strategy must also include regulating the industries who cause the harms that overwhelm it.
Here for starters is the letter in the FT last Thursday on the subject.
