AI and the future of manufactured addiction
Addiction Economy Thought for Today - how will companies build on the addictive qualities of social media using generative AI?
A quick foray into this from Joe Woof in this neat 5 minute 'lightning talk' for last night's AI showcase at The RSA (The royal society for arts, manufactures and commerce)
For a lay audience he introduces the basics of the techniques used by 'curative' AI to hook us on social media and speculates on how 'generative' AI might be used to addict us all in the future.
Well done to Ismael Kherroubi García, FRSA for setting up this new RSA Group on AI and for putting together the event. Let's hope that your drive to get AI onto the RSA agenda pays off Ismael. Great job!
I really like the comparison Joe uses between social media and films. When you are watching a film everything seems very natural and real, but like social media, behind the scenes on the film set the director is micromanaging every single aspect to make it look natural, but actually your attention and emotion is being manipulated very precisely without you even realising!
