Irish health service approach to vaping
Addiction Economy Thought for Today - Liking what the Irish health service the HSE is doing on vaping for young people - with vids, cessation services and materials for schools and parents.
Their video doesn't start with all the negative health effects, but with pointing out the lifestyle marketing techniques vaping companies use to get young people hooked. Nice job Martina Blake and team, we think that an important and useful piece of knowledge for people to have.
What is the UK doing? Currently nothing, with, 'bits and pieces' planned, but no coherence strategy according to the conversations I had with Action on Smoking and Health (UK) and Public Health England who are focusing on vapes for smokers.
More needs to be done, particularly for and with young adults to stop the new vaping economy in its tracks. Nicotine is what keeps smokers smoking even when they know they have a 50:50 chance they will die from it.
Vapes should be a niche product for smokers. For mental and physical health reasons nicotine in vapes should not be allowed to be a new lifestyle product for recreational use.
