Public Support for Taxes on Unhealthy Foods: A Health Foundation Study

Addiction Economy Thought for Today - the public are happy for taxes on certain unhealthy foods like sweets, cereals and pizzas, according to research from the Health Foundation.

Not totally sure about the slightly random nature of the products picked by the research, but certainly 'nanny state' fears seem to be unfounded.

Cereals definitely need to be transformed in my view, foods pretending to be food but which in reality are 'synthetic manufactured edible substances' targeted at children are particularly heinous. Whether a straight tax or whether motivation to add nutrition and reduced unhealthy ingredients might be best, unsure.

Some people say this is a 'tax on the poor', but the poor are already hugely disadvantaged by the economic drivers of unhealthy food which target them specifically with availability, advertising and promotions which mean they are more likely to be harmed than rich people.

Interesting to see what the 'nanny state' folks have to say about this. Pls do tag me if you see anything.
