Why isn’t their more action for ‘polluter pays’ levies?

Addiction Economy Thought For Today - why do the 'commercial determinants of health' not get much more attention in media coverage of deaths which can be directly attributed to their actions?

I had a glance at most of the papers coverage of the British Heart Foundation statistics on the increase in deaths from heart disease (Guardian below). The coverage mainly just mentions broad brush language about 'preventable causes' 'heath risks'. The Times focuses on NHS problems in treatment and the BHF also mention the need to "power scientific breakthroughs to unlock revolutionary new treatments and cures,” (Dr Charmaine Griffiths, the BHF’s chief executive).

The main culprits are cigarette companies and those producing the ingredients and products under the umbrella term 'ultra-processed foods'. Why are they not more accountable and paying for the harm they are causing? (The role of tax is something for another post!)

Looking forward to what the WHO meeting on the 'Commercial Determinants of Health' has to say about this in their meeting tomorrow. More on that later in the week.
