China agrees to curb export of Fentanyl chemicals

Regular followers may remember I used to do a Trust Thought for Today for a couple of years where I posted on issues of trust. I've decided to do the same again but for our Addiction Economy work which will take up the next couple of years. Any kind followers please feel free to tag me on anything you see.

So for the first Addiction Economy Thought For The Day I'm going to start with this, (sorry paywall) which is quite big news. China has agreed to curbs on the chemicals which make Fentanyl, the deadly opioid which is 50 times more potent than heroin and kills hundreds of thousands of people in the US and increasingly around the world.

Beijing had previously cracked down on fentanyl itself but companies responded by sending the precursor chemicals to Mexico where drug cartels make the drug and import to the US.

Agreement to be sealed in talks today with Xi Jinping. Well done President Biden.

Interesting that in the work we are doing on vaping, it is the Chinese company iMiracle which has upended the UK vape sector with disposables ElfBar and Lost Mary, displacing the big UK and US tobacco firms. When we visited the Vape Expo last weekend it was full of Chinese and Korean manufacturers looking to break in. UK gov looking to regulate, but more on that in future posts.

There's a new Netflix series about the economy aspects of Fentanyl and the US healthcare system called PainKiller too which I have got to watch from the book Pain Hustlers by Evan Hughes. Dopesick another and the book Empire of Pain about the Sackler's another very depressing read.
