Government brainwashed by fast-food lobbyists

Addiction Economy Thought For Today - the playbook of addiction economy industries (and most others to be fair!) is the obfuscation, distraction and playing the system that happens behind the scenes. They are the masters of muddying the waters of public debate to paralyse and confuse so they can chisel useful cracks in regulation.

Our work at the moment is focused on vaping, these techniques were invented by the same tobacco companies now using them to addict a new generation of nicotine customers who are seeing cigarettes for what they are!

Nice piece here in The Times (sorry paywall) who are trying to get details of the direct and indirect lobbying by ultra-processed food companies and the 'deluge of correspondence' which lands on the desks of politicians and civil servants to try to derail the advertising ban on these foods.

It must be very tough to be fair to politicians and civil servants. But in order to resist and really work in the public interest you need a really clear and strong National Food Strategy to guide you. Oh wait, yes Henry Dimbleby created a brilliant one that they were successful in derailing. Abandon hope peeps!
