Moving beyond ‘Vaping - The Facts. New concept for school wellbeing lessons

We are looking for feedback on Vaping Voices our concept for a pupil-led module for school wellbeing lessons on vaping. Love any teachers or young people to give feedback on the idea and volunteers for pilots.

It started because schools, school nurses, parents and healthcare professionals have all told us they are really struggling with materials and formats to engage young people about vaping and its impacts. And we know ‘Vaping The Facts’ type approaches which focus on how bad it all is don’t work. But what does?

We researched what works and doesn’t, talked to young people and joined forces with the wonderful Caitlin Connors from Bright Harbour, who does research and design for social change to create a new more engaging and empowering approach.

Here we move beyond the usual top-down delivery of public health messaging in schools to a more an innovative pupil-led approach.

Wellbeing lessons are a great place to have these discussions so we have designed two lesson module for young people to discuss among themselves the rise of vapes, and explore health risks and commercial drivers which have lead to their popularity.

We may even be able to use the anonymous Pol.is software to being their voices to the policy debate about vapes which is also sorely lacking.

Thanks for any views from anyone!
